AI Chatbots for Business: How to Evaluate Accuracy Before Going Live
A fluent answer can still be wrong. Test the business facts, the saved record and the action that follows.
Business AI chatbot accuracy is more than whether a reply sounds convincing. The answer must fit the approved information, reflect the customer’s latest requirement and avoid claiming that an action happened when it did not.
Before launch, define what a correct outcome looks like. Otherwise a smooth demonstration can hide important mistakes.
Create an answer reference
Choose common customer questions and record the approved answer, source, owner and review date. Include prices with conditions, product exclusions and questions that require a person.
Resolve conflicting sources before testing. If two approved documents give different answers, the assistant has been given an avoidable ambiguity.
Test more than factual recall
| Test type | Example to try | Expected behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Known fact | Ask about an approved feature. | A relevant, accurate answer. |
| Unknown fact | Ask about an undocumented exception. | No invented assurance; a clear next step. |
| Correction | Change a date or quantity. | Use the corrected requirement. |
| Interruption | Ask a question during qualification. | Address it appropriately before continuing. |
| Action | Request a human callback. | Only claim the action supported by the workflow. |
Inspect the saved result
If the bot acknowledges a new budget, check the stored value. If qualification is complete, inspect the expected stage and handoff. A correct sentence does not prove that the business record is correct.
Separate conversation testing from delivery testing. A sandbox response can establish engine behavior without proving that a real channel message reached a customer.
Record failures so they can be repaired
For each failed case, preserve the fictional input, expected outcome, observed result and configuration version where available. Classify the issue: missing knowledge, conflicting instructions, extraction error, workflow failure or delivery problem.
Retest the failing case after a change, then check a few related cases. Avoid declaring the assistant reliable because one rewritten prompt handled one example.
Keep an owner after launch
Prices, schedules and policies change. Assign responsibility for updates and repeat the relevant tests when approved information changes. Review a suitable sample of real conversations with appropriate access and privacy controls.
Use our handoff guide to define what happens when the assistant cannot resolve a question.
Evaluate SHVYA with a test pack
SHVYA’s AI Playbooks and AI Sandbox are relevant to this preparation. Confirm supported behavior and implementation scope; no test can guarantee perfect answers indefinitely.
